About me
Hi, I'm a young British athlete based in the North East of Scotland and my goal is to compete for Team GB as an Olympic cross country ski athlete. I'm part of the British Nordic Development Squad and I've been cross country skiing since I was 7 years old.
My interest in the sport started when my parents took me along to a taster session at the local ski club in Huntly - I'd never done it before and I have to admit that I wasn't that great to begin with but I soon picked it up and my confidence grew.
Cross country skiing is one of the most cardiovascular work outs you can get, so it's pretty hard core when it comes to fitness and endurance levels. In the UK, it's definitely a minority sport, there are only a few clubs scattered around the country and we spend most of our time training on roller skis throughout the year as access to snow is limited.
That said, we're getting quite good at it, with senior British XC ski athletes like Andrew Musgrave and Andrew Young both regularly getting into the top 30 on the World Cup circuit.
My current aim is to be selected for the 2022 Winter Olympic Games in Bejing, China and I'm training hard to build up to this. I started my International Ski Federation (FIS) race career in 2015 with races throughout Europe and Scandinavia. In 2017, I was selected by Team GB as part of a 17 strong athlete delegation representing Great Britain at Erzurum, Turkey at the 2017 European Young Olympics.
Please follow my progress as I continue to train and compete at international level. Why not follow the progress of the team at www.britishnordic.org or simply like us on Facebook.
